Equestrian Edits

Proofreading and consulting from a true horse girl.
Helping authors create believable horse content, one chapter at a time.

Meet Michaela

I'm a lifelong equestrian with 20 years of hands-on horse experience and a passion for great storytelling. After buying too many books that made it to the bookstore shelf with major equine-related mistakes and seeing authors be discredited in equestrian book social media pages for mistakes that could have been caught by a knowledgeable proofreader, I want to offer my photographic memory and sharp editing eye to help future authors!

Background

As a former Pony Club member, I grew up riding English (mainly cross country jumping) but have always ridden Western on the side. I grew up with Paints and Quarter Horses who were versatile enough to do it all.Professionally, I was a staff writer for the American Paint Horse Association's magazines and the editor of the Nebraska Dressage publication, The Contact. I've also provided proofreading and managing editor services for multiple books in higher education, which is my day job.Disciplines of Knowledge:
Hunter Jumper (daughter competes), Dressage (competed), Ranch work, Rodeo (all events, personally did team roping and barrel racing), Show Jumping (competed), Cross Country Jumping (competed), Eventing (competed), 4-H (competed), Reining, Western Pleasure, Thoroughbred Racing, Cutting, Endurance, Polo, Vaulting, Para Equestrian

Packages

Proofreading - 1 cent per word
In this package, I will proofread your entire manuscript as would a normal proofreader and also point out sentences that were rough to read.
Consulting - $500 flat fee
Zoom meeting to consult over any horse questions (ex: Would it be possible for a horse to only live on grain during a quest?) and proofreading only the equine sections provided later, not the entire book.

Reviews

"The found family element of this unique story is worth every bit of strife the characters force us to feel along the way."
